Where we live can determine how well we live. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we've been working to create the safest and best places to call home, no matter the circumstance.
Watch the videoSince the onset of the virus, Atria communities have been working to maintain the health and well-being of our residents through ongoing testing, contact tracing and strict safety protocols. All Atria communities are enrolled in the Center for Disease Control (CDC) COVID-19 Vaccination Program - ensuring residents receive top priority. The preventative practices outlined below will continue as the vaccine is administered.
The CDC considers Atria residents a top priority and has recommended that each individual state include residents among the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The first vaccine clinics for Atria communities started on December 21st and will continue through April. In addition, Atria now requires that all employees receive both rounds of vaccinations by May 1st. This is a foundational milestone in the "Sleeve Up Atria" initiative, which is designed to vaccinate more than 18,000 residents and almost 13,000 employees across 25 U.S. states and seven Canadian provinces - all of whom will receive the vaccination. As this topic continues to evolve, we will provide the most current information as quickly as possible.
With support from Mayo Clinic laboratories, Atria communities are running weekly testing clinics for the foreseeable future to help control the spread of the virus. They continue testing all new hires, as well as residents returning from hospitals and rehab stays.
Right now, avoiding the hospital is key to prevent exposure to the virus. To better protect residents, we offer technology and equipment - including smart TVs, BP monitors and pulse oximeters - so health care providers can virtually treat residents and staff.
While under quarantine, new and returning residents must stay in their apartments for 10 days where they receive twice-daily temperature checks and symptom monitoring by a designated caregiver in full PPE.
While the world experienced PPE shortages, we ensured every Atria community was protected from the jump. Teaming up with a chef coats manufacturer and distillery, we made sterilizable gowns for community staff – plus, hand sanitizer, foaming hand soap and sanitizing wipes.
The best way to stop the spread of the virus is to identify who and where it's coming from. With digital contact tracing technology, we can quickly react to new virus activity, analyze tracing results in a few hours and respond with targeted testing clinics literally overnight.
Maintaining contact with family and friends is vital to everyone's well-being. As the COVID-19 landscape continues to evolve, we also know how important it is to create an open line of communication between Atria communities and families.
While in their apartments, residents look forward to conference call book clubs, guided meditation, indoor gardening and a variety of creative art projects. Themed food and beverage carts with coordinating events are another way staff add touches of fun to residents' doors.
Socializing with friends over a chef-prepared meal is one of life's most delicious pleasures. Select communities have started offering small group dining options with special seating arrangements so residents can safely eat in the company of friends and neighbors.
Time outside can be especially therapeutic. With face masks and proper social distancing, residents may stay active with walks, gardening and other outdoor pursuits. During times of quarantine, they can join walking programs accompanied by staff.
Exercise keeps the mind and body strong. Residents stay active with daily fitness challenges, small group workouts and — during times of quarantine — doorway and balcony exercise classes.
We are thoughtfully planning for the day when residents can once again enjoy our programs and events in a group setting. Until then, we're continuing to offer new opportunities to learn and connect with one another from a safe distance.
When you can't be together in person, seeing a familiar face on a screen is the next best thing. Every community has tablets with cellular service, mobile TV carts and conference lines for residents to connect with their families and friends.
A visit – even from a distance – can make a difference in someone's day. Depending on state and local guidelines, family and friends enjoy our community drive-up programs, gathering in designated outdoor spaces or visits inside resident apartments.
Family members are always kept in the know. Frequent letters, email responses from our Coronavirus email hotline and personal phone calls from community staff are some of the ways families stay informed.
By logging in to the Atria Mobile app, families can easily find out how their family member is doing with daily temperature readings and COVID-19 symptoms screening. They can also view community updates and important contact information.
Atria communities are once again welcoming new residents. While the way we interact with each other may be a bit different right now, you can still learn about available apartments, culinary experiences and forward-thinking programs – all from the comfort of your home.
