LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design™ – a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to recognize and certify high-performance green buildings. It’s the nationally accepted standard for verifying a building is designed, constructed and operated to improve performance across nine key areas: integrative process, location and transportation, sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, innovation, and regional priority.

LEED Certified® buildings save money and resources and have a positive impact on the health of occupants, while promoting renewable, clean energy.

The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) awards properties that demonstrate exceptional real estate management in green building performance. IREM Certified Sustainable Property for senior housing requires a building to show excellence in sustainability achievements across the following categories:

  • Baseline practices
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Health
  • Recycling
  • Purchasing

Atria is proud to have achieved the IREM® Certified Sustainable Property for senior housing at the following location:

  • Atria Valley View

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awards ENERGY STAR certifications to buildings that outperform at least 75% of similar buildings nationwide on an annual basis. Buildings that earn this achievement help protect the environment through their reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy usage.

According to the EPA’s ENERGY STAR website, when compared to its peers, an ENERGY STAR-certified office building:

  • Uses 35% less energy
  • Generates 35% fewer greenhouse gas emissions
  • Costs $0.54 less per square foot to operate
  • Has higher rental and occupancy rates

That’s why Atria is honored to have achieved more 2020 ENERGY STAR certifications than anyone in the senior care community category, reaching over 80 certifications.
