Veteran Emery Johnson, Atria Hillcrest

I am a resident at Atria Hillcrest. I am a World War II veteran.
I was in the 13th Armored Division (Army). While in the 13th, I had two 13-day furloughs. We left the U.S. on Friday the 13th in a Liberty Ship. It took us 13 days to get to England. I was in the first squad of the third platoon.
We rode in a half-track whose number was 13.
There were 12 men and a driver in the half-track (13).We fought in the Ruhr pocket, in Austria and Bavaria and went up to Hitler's retreat in the Alps. We left France on the 13th though not a Friday.
Our squad had no casualties and we were nicknamed the “Black Cat Division.” How was that for good luck!
