There are four brothers in my family. We all served at the same time during the Korean War. I was the first to enlist and served three years, the last years in Germany.

We were very fortunate as not one of us was sent to Korea. One brother was also in Germany and we were able to visit. Another brother was in France and was in the Army band. My youngest brother was a medic in the Navy in the Philippines.

The four Klingensmith brothers.

When Congress passed the Survivors Act, I was discharged early, as I was the first brother to enter the military. Because I was the first one discharged of the four brothers, I finally had my own room, wore their clothes, drove their cars and, on occasion, dated their girlfriends.

Thank you to all the brave men who fought for our country. My prayer is for peace on earth. We four brothers have been married to our original wives for a total of 231 years.
