Nearly 70 years ago, Jean S. – a resident at Atria Evergreen Woods in Florida – returned home after serving as an Army nurse in the China-Burma-India Theater. For three years she cared for sick and injured soldiers in a bamboo ward stationed near an active combat zone. If you met Jean, you would understand what made her a wonderful nurse. (more…)

My second assignment was my first memorable experience. Both my wife and I are immigrants from the Republic of Panama so when we received news that I would be assigned to the Canal Zone, we were overwhelmed with joy. (more…)

I am a resident at Atria Hillcrest. I am a World War II veteran.
I was in the 13th Armored Division (Army). While in the 13th, I had two 13-day furloughs. We left the U.S. on Friday the 13th in a Liberty Ship. It took us 13 days to get to England. I was in the first squad of the third platoon. (more…)

In January 1944, after leaving New York with his new B-24 crew and transiting Brazil and Africa, he arrived in southern Italy. His crew, flying their B-24, named Tailwind, flew their first combat mission on February 13, 1944. (more…)
