Outings and events will show appreciation for service providers, caregivers and others
September 1, 2018 – This month, residents and staff at Atria Senior Living communities across the U.S. and Canada will once again venture out into their towns and cities to perform acts of kindness and gratitude as part of Atria’s annual Go Grateful campaign. The campaign celebrates World Gratitude Day, which is September 21.
With nearly 2 million combined years of experience, Atria residents understand the power of gratitude to make the world a better place. They know that gratitude costs little (or nothing) to give yet it yields the most meaningful return.
At Atria communities, gratitude is an ongoing theme. In 2015, the company published an award-winning book called The Wisdom of Gratitude, inspired by Atria residents and given to them as a gift. In 2016, Atria and its residents launched a campaign, in coordination with World Gratitude Day, to share gratitude and show appreciation, encouraging others to join them.
Atria residents have delivered gift baskets to first responders, held pop-up tai chi classes in parks, organized flash mobs and set up “appreciation stations” in their communities. They’ve visited The Today Show in New York, the Unconditional Surrender Statue in San Diego and other public venues to display expressions of gratitude. During last year’s campaign alone, Atria residents and staff carried out more than 300 acts of gratitude, and participants made more than 50,000 expressions of gratitude on social media.
This year, Atria residents and staff will organize similar outings to take place throughout the month of September. Atria communities will also host events on World Gratitude Day under the theme “Thank Goodness, ” where residents and families are invited to share their appreciation for the Atria team members who make their lives easier, friendlier, healthier and happier, as well as post expressions of gratitude on GoGratefulNow.com. In addition, Atria StoryWise – a free storytelling app the company released late last year on the Apple App Store – has been updated with a special World Gratitude Day section of topics and cues.
“Our residents have such a wealth of experience and perspective,” said Regan Atkinson, Senior Vice President – Marketing and Customer Experience for Atria. “Civic engagement is one of our core values as a company and one we share with our residents. Showing gratitude is an easy way we can all give back every day. We’re very excited to see the creative acts of kindness and generosity our residents come up with this year, and the ways they will make our community staff members feel important and valued for all they do.”
