Resident Volunteers as Community’s Librarian

Chocolate and books. Lois N.'s two favorite things.
Aside from keeping a spring in her step, chocolate has much less to do with why Lois is a rock-solid resident librarian at Atria Windsor Woods in Florida.
Books, on the other hand…
“Books have always been a big part of my life,” says Lois, who fell in love with reading at a young age.
She declares, “I love fiction. You’re getting out of your life and into someone else’s life.”
Lois has dedicated nearly 20 years of service as resident librarian, all while living at Atria. In fact, because of her volunteerism over the years, Atria Windsor Woods renamed the community library in her honor last November.
Lois says reading ensures that she never feels bored or lonesome. Her current favorite book is “Recessional” by James Michener.
When asked about the value of reading, Lois asserts, “Teaching a child to read is the best gift you can give them.”
